Steamboat Springs at a Glance
Near the Rabbit Ears Pass on the Continental
Divide, Steamboat Springs is one of the highest-altitude cities in Colorado.
This makes it a prime location for alpine recreation, and nearby resorts include
internationally known Steamboat
Ski Resort. Located approximately 165 mi (265 km) west of Denver,
Steamboat Springs takes its name from the numerous geothermal springs that dot
the upper Yampa River Valley. Destinations like the Strawberry
Park Hot Springs attract thousands each year to their therapeutic mineral
baths. The Steamboat
Springs Health and Recreation Center is built to capitalize on these springs,
consisting of multiple mineral pools as well as a waterpark and spa. Beautiful
mountain scenery, national parks and forest hiking trails combine in the Routt
National Forest, which straddles the Colorado-Wyoming
border. Outdoor activities, relaxing getaways and hot spring relaxation make this
a year-round destination, with miles of hiking and mountain biking trails in the
area.
